“Soil and Sky” explores sensory experience and our deep-rooted connection to the natural world. The work invites viewers to reconsider the boundary between humanity and nature, challenging the notion that we are separate from, or superior to, the ecosystems we inhabit. The more we attempt to dominate or distance ourselves from nature, the more we overlook its enduring power and wisdom.

Like trees bending in the wind or stretching toward light, we grow through hardship and the lifelong pursuit of connection. This shared resilience underscores our fundamental kinship with the natural world, underlining our similarities that far outweigh our differences.

The collection emphasizes texture and materiality, incorporating elements such as sand and aged copper. Organic imagery — trees, rock formations — blends with abstracted symbols of home and humanity. The works offer a tension between comfort and challenge: familiar forms ground the viewer, while unconventional materials and abstraction invite reflection. Aged copper, in particular, becomes a recurring motif, symbolizing decay as a natural, beautiful, and wholly unavoidable aspect of life.
